Maceo A. Brown, Founder of maceo’s kids, honored with a memorial street intersection dedicated in his name

maceo’s kids founder honored by the community

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, local officials, dignitaries, family, friends, and members of Atlanta’s business community gathered to unveil the Maceo A. Brown Memorial Intersection sign and pay homage to the founder of System 5 Electronics and Maceo’s Kids. The dedication ceremony held at the corner of Anderson Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, N.W., is near System 5 Electronics’ first corporate office previously located at 1761 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd for 20 years.

Mrs. Alicia Hutchinson-Brown was joined by Maceo’s brothers Milton, Thomas and Wendell, as well as Charles Willis and Lisa Smith (long time associates from System 5 Electronics), in delivering remarks on this special occation. State Representative Mainor also spoke, reminiscing on growing up in the Mozley Park community where her mom went to Henry McNeal Turner High School with the Brown boys. “The extraordinary people from Atlanta’s Westside deserve recognition, and Maceo A. Brown is in the category of a magnificent servant leader. I am honored to have the opportunity to acknowledge his work on behalf of the great State of Georgia.”

Maceo was a visionary who had faith in God, a family man, an entrepreneur, a mentor, a philanthropist who loved his community and much more. He was committed to creating jobs and serving the people in his community. When System 5 Electronics, Inc. outgrew Maceo A. Brown’s residence where he started the company, he identified a fire damaged structure at 1761 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. a short distance from his memorial. He had the vision to restore it and make it the company’s first home office. SYSTEM 5 ELECTRONICS, INC established it’s first corporate office there in 1990.

And when it came to giving back to the community, Maceo founded Maceo’s Kids. He believed teaching our kids to be entrepreneurs, teaching them a trade, was and is crucial in our community.

“Let’s give them another avenue, an opportunity, to understand how they can become productive citizens. We are convinced that we can go out and change the lives of these kids. Let’s make the difference.”

The dedication ceremony held at the corner of Anderson Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, N.W., is near System 5 Electronics’ first corporate office previously located at 1761 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard for 20 years. Upon the unveiling, the triangle meeting Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, Anderson Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive come together is now the Maceo A. Brown Memorial intersection.

Due to the company’s success and growth, in 2011, SYSTEM 5 ELECTRONICS relocated its corporate offices to 2820 Campbellton Road S.W. Atlanta, a 30,000 square foot facility on 6 acres of land where his legacy lives on under the leadership of his wife, Alicia Hutchinson-Brown.

The dedication ceremony honored the life and legacy of Maceo A. Brown for his leadership, vision, philanthropy, and his love of the community.
